Ana Mendes – BRAZIL

The juc?ara fruit (also known as ac?ai) is a staple food for the indigenous peoples and traditional communities in the North- eastern part of the Brazilian Amazon. Juc?ara is harvested by women from the local communities using traditional methods, and owing to the proximity to the sea, is o en eaten with fish or shrimps, but may also be eaten with meat and cassava flour.
